Job Overview

The Coordinator for Young Women's Leadership Initiatives will primarily focus on orchestrating and guiding our youth engagement and educational programs aimed at empowering local African-American high school students and young adults. The key objectives include enhancing leadership capabilities, organizing and conducting meetings and events, collaborating with partner state leaders, and coordinating projects with community-based organizations.

Our youth engagement and educational initiatives offer participants the chance to become future leaders in their communities and beyond by educating them on vital issues and how to advocate for themselves and others. The Sherrod Institute is committed to nurturing a new generation of Southern rural Black women who recognize the significance of civic participation and its role in fostering a more equitable Black Belt Region. The Coordinator for Young Women's Leadership Initiatives will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating closely with the Young Women's Leadership Director and other state staff, advisors, and mentors to facilitate the design and execution of the Young Women's Leadership Institute activities.
  • Working with the SWGP network to identify and select young women participants for regional intensive programs.
  • Planning, coordinating, and facilitating regular meetings and other communication channels with women's leadership participants in Georgia, including educational activities and workshops that address issues affecting young Black women and girls in their communities.
  • Creating action plans to tackle targeted issues, ensuring that all activities are documented with sign-in sheets, detailed notes, photographs, and other relevant materials for regular reporting.
  • Maintaining a positive work environment and exemplifying professionalism for all Young Women's Leadership participants.
  • Establishing, maintaining, and expanding collaborative relationships with schools and other youth-serving organizations in targeted communities.
  • Working closely with the regional Human Rights Commission Senior Consultant and Young Women's Leadership Regional Program Director to facilitate intergenerational activities among rural Black women, young women, and girls from the Black Belt counties.
  • Recruiting young women to participate in the annual Young Women's Leadership Zone.
