The CPI Supervisor undertakes highly intricate (senior-level) consultative services, technical assistance, and supervisory responsibilities.
This role oversees administrative personnel and a team of caseworkers tasked with executing Investigations and Alternative Response (AR) cases within the CPI Division.
The Supervisor offers case consultations and monitors the progress of cases within the team by leveraging data analytics to pinpoint trends and patterns associated with risk and child safety concerns.
This position involves selecting, hiring, managing, and nurturing staff through performance evaluations, individual meetings, case assessments, data analytics, field observations, and team gatherings to guarantee productivity and adherence to policies, procedures, and service control standards.
Provides expert consultative services, analysis, and technical support to devise, implement, and oversee solutions and enhancements stemming from evaluations of CPI cases within the team, focusing on all child safety matters to ensure optimal outcomes for the families served.
The Supervisor delivers subject matter expertise, guidance, and consultation to team members, internal and external stakeholders to foster effective service delivery.
The Supervisor is responsible for critical decisions vital to the safeguarding of children.Engages with the area Program Director, regional and state office management, regional caseworkers, and external public and private stakeholders to discuss intricate, high-profile, and sensitive CPI cases and prioritizes urgent reports.
The role of an investigative supervisor is dynamic and high-energy, necessitating daily evaluations and decision-making regarding child safety issues.
This position entails regular on-call responsibilities, with frequency and timeframes determined by the regional area, including holidays and weekends.The Supervisor manages the unit in compliance with the Child Protective Services Handbook, Title III of the Texas Family Code, and Minimum Standards for child placing agencies.
Regular interactions occur with clients, judges, attorneys, child advocacy centers, medical and educational personnel, and all parties involved in investigations assigned to their unit.
Operates under limited supervision, with significant latitude for initiative and independent judgment.Travel is required approximately 40% of the time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains regular attendance in accordance with agency leave policies and performs additional duties as assigned.
- Oversees, directs, and manages case actions related to safety, risk, and permanency on a daily basis. Ensures timely contact is established on all cases and that staff continuously assess child safety throughout the investigation by reviewing case records to confirm accurate documentation of all contacts. Evaluates team performance through case assessments, ensuring that safety evaluations and reassessments are completed promptly, and referrals to community resources or services are made when necessary to reduce danger to a child, support protective measures, and mitigate factors placing the child at risk of future harm. Reviews cases proposed for closure in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Consults with program leadership when unresolved danger indicators or high-risk factors arise. (40%)
- Implements program guidelines, performs administrative tasks for staff, and leads unit meetings. The Supervisor reviews abuse/neglect intakes routed to the unit daily, evaluating case readings and providing case consultations to assess and mitigate child safety and risk-related issues, while collaborating with staff to ensure timely family contact. The Supervisor ensures all time and leave are accurately recorded in the Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) and oversees, regulates, and manages all overtime accrued by staff. The Supervisor conducts training and monthly meetings with staff to communicate important updates regarding policies and procedures, address trends and patterns in productivity and quality of work, discuss daily operations, provide CPI updates, and foster team cohesion. (25%)
- Interviews, selects, hires, manages, and develops staff. Conducts field visits with staff, reviews performance data, holds monthly conferences, trains, and completes performance evaluations. Evaluates team performance through case assessments, computer reports, and observation of unit operations to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and service control standards. The Supervisor strives to educate and develop competent staff capable of engaging, supporting, and empowering families to ensure the safety, permanency, and well-being of the children and families served. The Supervisor provides guidance and direction on policies, procedures, best practices, and ongoing support through professional development. (20%)
- Consults with unit staff and interprets program policies and procedures to agency staff, parents, children, youth, caregivers, volunteers, advocates, judges, educational, juvenile justice, other stakeholders, and the general public. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure coordination, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the unit's performance. Represents the program at meetings, conferences, workgroups, hearings, and other events. (10%)
- Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations. (5%)
