Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Freight Handler Forklift Operator Lead to oversee the loading and unloading of freight in a safe and efficient manner. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and providing excellent customer service, distributing work assignments, and training assigned team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers at all times.
  • Distribute work assignments, provide direction, and train assigned team members.
  • Oversee responsibility for at least one major account and be effectively cross-trained on all others to fill in as necessary.
  • Manage cargo from incoming trucks by removing it by hand or using manual equipment such as a hand truck or pallet jack, or by using a forklift.
  • Verify and note the count and condition of cargo received, knowing when to refuse or accept with notation.
  • Record receipts to appropriate forms and/or log books.
  • Verify proper documentation is attached and resolve discrepancies.
  • Operate a vehicle to transport materials to and from specified destinations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform all forklift requirements, including heavy and oversized pieces.
  • Develop load plans for trucks and containers, and anticipate equipment needs for a shipment.
  • Sort cargo received by account or intended location and store it in the proper location.
  • Ensure that freight is labeled accurately to destination.
  • Oversee the special handling requirements and necessary documentation related to special cargo, including hazardous or sensitive materials.
  • Assume light packing duties and assist in the export boxing area when needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • Minimum six months supervisory experience
  • Minimum two years industry experience, preferred
  • Forklift Driver Certification
  • Valid state-issued driver's license, preferred
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive and/or operate heavy equipment
  • Ability to operate a forklift, hand truck, and pallet jack
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
