Job Title: Advanced Practice Professionals

We are seeking highly skilled Advanced Practice Professionals to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our neurosurgery department, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to our patients.

Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Professional will coordinate and provide clinical care to neurosurgery patients, including biological, social, and psychological assessments. You will work closely with medical specialty teams to develop a comprehensive plan of care and review it with the clinical team. Your responsibilities will include performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, coordinating discharge planning, and participating in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for neurosurgery patients and their families in the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • Complete daily rounds, consults, and pre-procedure/evaluations, and ongoing follow-up in the ambulatory setting.
  • Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Consult and communicate with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in patient evaluations.
  • Develop a comprehensive individualized plan of care for neurosurgery patients, including teaching, discharge planning, and follow-up.
  • Identify unstable or complex neurosurgery patient care situations and facilitate appropriate intervention in the clinic and/or hospital setting.
  • Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.
  • Assist in the collection of outcome measures and participate in clinical trials and research studies.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's level degree as Physician Assistant preferred.
