Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Utility Equipment Operator to join our team at GMC Underground.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of equipment, including excavators, backhoes, dump trucks, vacuum trucks, skid steers, and pulling trailers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Install and repair equipment, including gas lines, valves, water mains, taps, and sewer mainlines
  • Inspect equipment and systems daily
  • Monitor equipment and systems, and take readings at designated intervals
  • Report defects or failures in gas, electricity, or water
  • Ensure the safety of coworkers and the public
  • Coordinate activities with other public works staff
Requirements
  • Must live in the area and/or be able to get yourself to and from work daily
  • Must be willing to train in our online, Operator Qualification (OQ) Program
  • Preferred 10 years experience in natural gas utilities and operating excavators
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments
  • Relevant certifications and licenses are a plus
