Overview:
The Respiratory Care Specialist is accountable for delivering comprehensive pulmonary care to a diverse patient population, including critically ill, non-critical, and chronically ill individuals across adult, pediatric, and neonatal categories. This role operates under the guidance of a physician and requires minimal supervision. The specialist conducts thorough patient evaluations and implements tailored respiratory care strategies while performing a variety of technical and diagnostic procedures throughout the healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Expected to fulfill the competencies associated with OneCHRISTUS, which may include:
- Emergency response for Code Blue and White situations;
- Management of airways, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning;
- Administration of aerosolized medications;
- Ventilator setup and management;
- Maintenance of oral hygiene;
- Placement and upkeep of airway retaining devices;
- Oversight of airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP;
- Administration of oxygen delivery systems and therapeutic monitoring;
- Analysis of chest radiographs;
- Collection and evaluation of blood gases;
- EKG interpretation;
- Thorough and precise documentation;
- Cleaning and replenishing of necessary equipment and supplies;
- Participation in CAP and JC evaluations.
The Respiratory Care Specialist may also take on the role of Shift Leader or Team Leader.
Advanced practice capabilities may encompass:
- Management and monitoring of therapeutic gases, including INO and HeO2;
- Conducting Pulmonary Function Tests;
- Assisting in bronchoscopy procedures;
- Monitoring hemodynamics;
- Analyzing waveforms;
- Evaluating nocturnal SpO2 (Desaturation Studies);
- Conducting polysomnography;
- Performing transport duties.
Qualifications:
- Licensure and/or certification requirements must be met.
- Preferred experience ranges from 1 to 3 years.
- RT or RCP License in the state of employment is mandatory.
- BLS certification is required.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC is essential.
