Position Overview:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Medical Surgical Unit, you will provide compassionate and efficient nursing care tailored to the specific needs of patients and their families. Utilizing the nursing process, your goal will be to support patients in achieving and maintaining optimal health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the professional standards set forth by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Complete and submit all necessary documentation accurately.
- Deliver nursing care that is relationship-based and effective.
- Exhibit technical proficiency in care delivery, ensuring safe practices and positive patient outcomes.
- Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively to enhance patient care and clinical operations.
- Engage in self-development and contribute to the nursing profession.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities that positively influence clinical and operational results.
General Duties:
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Comply with all relevant policies and standards.
- Refer to departmental documentation provided during orientation for specific duties and responsibilities.
- Ensure the secure and safe maintenance of Protected Health Information (PHI) for all patients.
Annual Training:
Participate in training sessions regarding the UH Code of Conduct and policies to ensure appropriate handling of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications:
- Education: Completion of an accredited practical nursing program or current enrollment in a nursing program is required.
- Experience: A minimum of one year of nursing experience is preferred. This position is full-time and operates during night shifts.
- Compensation: A bonus of $2000 is available for nurses with over one year of LPN experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with the LPN scope of practice as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing is essential.
- Proficient in using various technical equipment to meet patient needs and deliver prescribed clinical therapies (e.g., stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, and electronic monitoring devices).
Licenses and Certifications:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification in the State of Ohio is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required during nursing orientation.
- IV certification may be required depending on the unit.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling (up to 50 lbs).
- Occasional climbing and balancing.
- Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Constantly handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
