Job Opportunity

Auburn University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral fellow to join our team in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct innovative research in rural sociology, working closely with Dr. Russell on a USDA-funded project.

About the Position

The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for conducting needs assessment research using qualitative methods in agriculture, forestry, and rural industries. This will involve working with farmers and rural dwellers to identify challenges and opportunities for rural Alabama. The successful candidate will have a strong methodological background and experience conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups.

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at Auburn University is a multidisciplinary department with 14 faculty members and 3 rural sociologists. We have excellent facilities, an experimental economics laboratory, and a strong research program. Our department is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for our students and faculty.

Requirements
  • Ph.D. in sociology, rural sociology, or related field at the time of employment
  • Relevant experience using qualitative methods
  • Strong methodological background and experience conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups
  • Excellent command of qualitative software (e.g., MAXQDA, NVIVO)
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience working with farmers and rural dwellers
  • Previous involvement in the creation of Extension and outreach products
  • Interest in agriculture and rural prosperity
