The Technology Calibration & Test Group is tasked with developing methodologies and tools for the calibration and validation of essential hardware components across Apple's product line.


The Camera team seeks a skilled calibration and instrumentation engineer to lead the characterization and qualification of new camera modules, ensuring their seamless integration into systems to enhance critical features and optimize user experience.

Position Responsibilities:
As a camera calibration and instrumentation engineer, you will collaborate with system and design teams to:

  • Establish a comprehensive error budget to deliver essential features and user experiences, accounting for the capability and uncertainty of each hardware component.
  • Define calibration and testing specifications for camera, depth, and IMU components in new Apple products.
  • Develop performance metrics and specification limits, assessing the sensitivity of system performance metrics concerning the accuracy of individual parameters.
  • Design and implement calibration and testing methodologies, validating setups through simulations and lab/factory prototypes.
  • Specify requirements and tolerances for key components, qualifying equipment vendors to ensure adherence to established quality control processes.
  • Innovate and create new optical instruments or adapt existing ones for specialized applications, alongside developing image processing algorithms and calibration pipelines.
  • Confirm factory calibration outcomes through laboratory verification.

Additional Involvement:

  • Conduct failure mode and GRR analysis, designing DOE to identify root causes of performance issues and recommend corrective measures.
  • Enhance calibration and testing methods to achieve manufacturing efficiency objectives.

Key Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in imaging optics and camera modeling.
  • Experience in developing image processing or computer vision algorithms using Matlab or C++.
  • Skills in data analysis and simulation with Matlab or Python.
  • Familiarity with camera, depth, or IMU components.
  • Knowledge of robotic control systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative mindset in a multifunctional environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Educational background: BS or MS in Engineering or a related field.

Compensation & Benefits:

At Apple, base salary is one aspect of our comprehensive compensation package, determined within a specified range. This structure allows for growth and advancement as you develop within your role. The base salary range for this position is between $136,300 and $248,700, with your salary influenced by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Employees may also be eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
