Laundry Technician

The Laundry Technician is responsible for the overall processing of linens, clothing, and other related laundry duties at Cary Medical Center.

1. Receive, weigh, and log soiled linens from hospital facilities.
2. Separate soiled linens to prevent debris from entering washing machines or equipment.
3. Sort soiled linens according to wash formula or type.
4. Assist in loading and unloading washers and dryers.
5. Physically and visually inspect linens for stains, rips, tears, and serviceability.
6. Properly fold, stack, and prepare linens for distribution to units.
7. Recognize and report equipment malfunctions to the immediate supervisor.
8. Clean the laundry area and equipment according to the cleaning schedule.
9. Monitor linen inventory levels and inform the laundry lead when reorder points are reached.
10. Perform routine tasks, including sorting, folding, pick-up, and distribution, operation of equipment, and clean-up.
11. Monitor inventory levels of laundry supplies and replace containers as needed.
12. Ensure all nursing units and departments receive the appropriate quantity and quality of linens, as determined by preset par levels.
13. Respond promptly and courteously to the needs of departments when notified.
14. Work cooperatively with other laundry technicians in performing all aspects of laundry processing.
15. Communicate problems with other departments to the laundry lead and director.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Ability to work unsupervised and relate professionally with other hospital staff.
• Ability to read and write at least at the eighth-grade level.
