We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Porter to join our team at Asian Americans for Equality. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our mixed-use residential and commercial building in Flushing, Queens.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a clean and safe environment for residents and staff
• Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash
• Respond to cleaning emergencies and perform tasks as needed
• Keep common areas, including staircases and hallways, clean and free of clutter
• Prepare and remove garbage and trash for pickup by garbage trucks
• Keep the basement clean and free of clutter and debris
• Remove and dispose of dead vermin
• Replace missing or burned-out bulbs in public areas and the basement
• Report any defects or issues with the roof, plumbing, electrical, and other systems to management
• Clear snow from sidewalks adjacent to and in front of the building during snow periods
• Apply granulated salt compound or alternative to avoid slippage during light snow or ice
• Report any illegal activities or conduct witnessed on the part of tenants or visitors
• File reports on all accidents without delay
• Maintain a neat appearance and polite, courteous demeanor at all times
• Advise management of the need for cleaning tools, supplies, and equipment
• Supervise outside contractors and utility companies
• Maintain a working relationship with tenants at all times
• Remove obstructions on all fire egress and public areas
• Remove stagnant water in the basement as needed
• Clean apartments of debris when tenants move out with proper authorization

Requirements:

• Previous work experience as a Porter, Janitor, or Custodian is a plus
• Bilingual is a plus, English/Spanish, English/Chinese, or English/Korean
• Positive attitude and good communication skills
• Availability to work in shifts and with flexible schedules

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to walk from floor to floor and may be required to walk outside between buildings in varying outdoor weather conditions
• Ability to move furniture; reach, lift, and carry heavy equipment
• Ability to regularly sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; bend, squat, and regularly lift up to 50 pounds through the course of a shift
