Histology Technician

Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join their team. As a key member of the Surgical Pathology lab, you will play a crucial role in preparing pathological slides for diagnostic procedures.
Responsibilities:- Run tissue processor to produce paraffin blocks and file them accordingly
- Embed pathology specimens to view all layers
- Cut Pathology specimens on rotary microtome
- Stain routine Hematoxylin Eosin and special stains (GMS, AFB, PAS) to identify organisms or tissue elements
- Perform enzyme histochemistry (leder esterase)
- Enter orders and update on LISA to bill special stains
- Label and sign out slides to ensure accurate distribution of cases
- Cover slipper (manual and automated) to prevent water or air bubbles
- Perform quality control to ensure high standards in the laboratory
- Record equipment maintenance to ensure proper operation
- Prepare solutions for histological processing
- Process requests from pathology residents and attendings
- Assist in Immunohistochemistry procedure to identify antigens
- File paraffin blocks and slides
- Perform other duties as needed
- Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Life Sciences required
- New York State Department of Education Certified Histological Laboratory Technician License or a limited permit required
- Experience prioritizing tissue handling, sign out of cases, and troubleshooting technical procedures required
- Experience working with specific equipment, such as rotary microtome, Laboratory Information System, and Automated cover slipper
- Knowledge of histopathology techniques, immunohistochemistry techniques, and equipment used in Histology Laboratory
This position is located in the Surgical Pathology lab at the Moses campus. The hours are 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday-Friday. Montefiore Medical Center is an equal employment opportunity employer and values diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
