Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician

At PRISM Vision Group, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team.

Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician will be responsible for conducting measurements and tests to provide the Physician with the necessary information to diagnose and treat patients. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity.
  • Review patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint, and history.
  • Act as a scribe while the physician examines the patient, entering data into electronic medical records.
  • Perform lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp examination, including applanation tonometry, anterior chamber angle assessment, and gross external exam.
  • Administer diagnostic tests, including OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, and biometry.
  • Perform manifest refraction and administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
  • Assist with in-office procedures, ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, and set up and clean up from procedures.
  • Assist in training other ophthalmic assistants and provide patient education.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Comply with all practice procedures and protocols, as well as State and Federal regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is highly preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • 2-4 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment

The Ophthalmic Technician will work in an office environment with a controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens.
