The Climate Policy Analyst position is a critical role within the Department of the Army's Management Office (DAMO) at the Pentagon. As a key member of the team, you will provide expert advice on climate change and renewable energy initiatives, analyzing legislative, regulatory, and policy proposals to develop strategic responses to climate change impacts on Army training.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct climate change analysis and develop reports explaining the analysis and its conclusions.
- Provide guidance on climate adaptation strategies and climate change policies, identifying potential impacts to Army training related to climate change initiatives.
- Serve on climate change policy coordination bodies on behalf of DAMO.
- Participate in Army Headquarter (HQDA) and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) climate change and renewable energy working groups.
- Develop briefings for Army and Department of Defense officials, respond to Congressional inquiries, and contribute to scenario planning.
- Analyze large data sets across multiple regions and climates to develop climate change projections to assess impact to training and training support efforts.
- Bachelor's degree in climate science, climate adaptation, ecosystem management, ecology, natural/environmental sciences, environmental policy, urban planning, engineering or closely related field AND a minimum of five years' experience providing support to either Headquarter-level programs, or five years' experience with military training lands and ranges or installation environmental programs, OR
- Master's degree in climate science, climate adaptation, ecosystem management, ecology, natural/environmental sciences, environmental policy, urban planning, engineering or closely related AND a minimum of two years' experience providing support to Headquarter-level programs or two years with military training lands and ranges or installation environmental programs.
- Experience in communicating environmental/climate policy and regulations to diverse audiences.
- Ability to analyze and apply complex scientific findings to real-world implications.
- Current secret security clearance or ability to obtain required secret clearance.
- Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date.
- The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; Colorado State University will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
- Master's degree in climate science, climate adaptation, ecosystem management, ecology, natural/environmental sciences, environmental policy, urban planning, engineering or closely related field and seven years' experience with military training lands and ranges or installation environmental programs.
- More than seven years' experience supporting Headquarters-level offices of a federal agency.
- Experience communicating complex science to diverse audiences.
- Experience developing policy briefings for high-level decision-makers.
- Experience responding to Congressional inquiries.
- Knowledge of Department of Defense and/or Army climate adaptation and climate resilience activities.
- Knowledge of Army training and training support activities and/or Army installations.
- Experience completing and interpreting vulnerability or risk assessments.
- Experience developing and analyzing impacts of climate change policy.
- Experience analyzing climate model outputs.
