About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing measurements, cutting, and assembly of metal manufacturing products, including selecting suitable materials, preparing metal surfaces, and inspecting weld strength during and after the welding process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Measure and Cut Metal: Selects, measures, cuts, and joins appropriate metals to specifications.
  • Prepare Work Surfaces: Prepares metals and work surfaces to ensure safe and effective assemblage.
  • Interpret Specifications: Interprets specifications and blueprints accurately.
  • Maintain Equipment: Regularly cleans and inspects welding equipment and tools.
  • Determine Gas Ratios: Determines correct gas ratios.
  • Test Weld Strength: Tests the strength of joins during and after project completion.
  • Troubleshoot Issues: Diagnoses issues and troubleshoots as required.
  • Report Defects: Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to Supervisor or Manager.
  • Maintain Safety: Maintains good housekeeping and follows established safety procedures.
  • Perform Additional Duties: Performs any other duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor as production needs require.
  • Follow Policies: Follows all policies, procedures, and work instructions including Employee Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Manufacturing Operating Procedures (MOPs), Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), and Safety Manual.
  • Quality and Safety: Maintains awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; reports all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent experience.
  • Certification: AWS Certification required.
  • Experience: 2+ years' experience in structural welding.
  • Math Skills: Must have basic math skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Must be detail oriented, efficient, and able to work under minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Communication: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions when furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Literacy: Must be computer literate.
  • Teamwork: Able to work in a team environment and interface with a diverse workforce.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Tools and Equipment: Ability to use various tools and measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measure, dial indicator, and feeler gauges.
  • Work Environment: Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and crouch for an 8-hour shift.
  • Hand and Finger Dexterity: Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel machinery, equipment or parts and work near moving mechanical parts.
