Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Content Development, the Senior Content Writer is responsible for crafting and enhancing alumni and donor communications across various platforms, aligning with UMAF's strategic fundraising and engagement objectives.

In collaboration with the Marketing Communications team, the Senior Content Writer will produce original content, including digital and printed materials for the university's capital campaign, donor profiles, impact narratives, reports, fundraising priority documents, donor proposals, and website content.

The writer will also revise existing content for both development and alumni channels, working closely with UMAF colleagues in annual giving, donor relations, and major gifts.

The Senior Content Writer will significantly contribute to the development and maintenance of a messaging library and talking points for fundraisers to utilize in donor interactions, presentations, and solicitations.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Senior Director of Content Development and the Marketing Communications team to execute communication strategies that enhance awareness of campaign priorities, alumni engagement, volunteer opportunities, and overall fundraising goals.
- Create and/or refine compelling digital and print communications that inspire alumni participation and increased philanthropy by highlighting UMass Amherst's academic and research strengths and vibrant student experiences.
- Generate ideas for impact stories and donor profiles for the UMAF Newsletter and campaign website; conduct interviews and write copy; collaborate with MarCom to disseminate these stories across various channels.
- Acquire in-depth knowledge of the upcoming campaign's foundational commitments and the fundraising priorities of each school and college to develop messaging, templates, and donor proposals for fundraisers.
- Research and prepare suggested remarks for university administration and high-level volunteers, focusing on fundraising and volunteer engagement.
- Support the MarCom team in ensuring all communications adhere to the university's branding, editorial style, and grammatical standards.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of writing experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field, with a preference for experience in higher education.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated persuasive writing capabilities.
- Experience writing for diverse audiences across multiple communication channels.
- Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders at various levels and convey key messages in line with the overarching communication strategy.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
- Ability to address and resolve challenging issues diplomatically.
- Preferred: Experience in writing proposals for donors or producing grant applications.
