Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Food Service Worker performs a variety of tasks involved in the serving of food in a facility. This includes cleaning and maintaining kitchen utensils, equipment, and work area, as well as performing related duties as required.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve food to residents in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen utensils, equipment, and work area to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Operate hot food warmer and storage equipment, and dishwashing equipment as needed.
  • Use kitchen and floor cleaners and cleaning implements to maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
  • Read and understand security procedures and mixing instructions for cleaners.
  • Write legible requests for repairs or supplies as needed.
  • Follow and give oral directions to ensure effective communication with colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues to ensure a positive work environment.
Requirements
  • One year of experience in food set up, service, and clean up.
  • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Knowledge of standard units of measure and weight for liquid and solid food to portion out required quantities; basic math; basic practices for safe food storage and prevention of contamination; safe work practices in a kitchen; kitchen and floor cleaning and sanitizing products and proper usage.
  • Ability to use kitchen serving utensils; operate hot food warmer and storage equipment, and dishwashing equipment; use kitchen and floor cleaners and cleaning implements; read and understand security procedures and mixing instructions for cleaners; write legible requests for repairs or supplies; follow and give oral directions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Will lift food containers weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in clear and effective English communication, both verbal and written, coupled with a strong ability to comprehend and execute instructions accurately in various formats.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Work Environment
  • Work conditions include exposure to heat, humidity, steam, cooking odors, refrigerator temperatures, and wet floors.
  • Work conditions include enclosed areas of preparation where there is heat from steam table and refrigerator motors.
  • Work with sharp knives and very hot food.
