Position Summary
The Bilingual Spanish Language Specialist plays a crucial role in translating essential materials from English to Spanish. This position is integral to the daily operations concerning the Spanish translation of all A.A. Conference-approved literature, as well as various service documents, periodicals, and other materials produced by the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Director of Language Services and Spanish Translation Contractors to prioritize and manage translation tasks.
- Translate diverse materials for A.A. events, including web content, reports, program details, press releases, and internal communications.
- Review translated documents for precision and adherence to established style guidelines and glossaries.
- Coordinate Spanish-language editorial resources, ensuring quality through proofreading, editing, and progress monitoring.
- Utilize relevant language technologies and tools effectively.
- Conduct translations from Spanish to English as needed.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish, with a strong grasp of grammar, spelling, and cultural nuances.
- In-depth understanding of editing processes and terminology, along with familiarity with current publishing practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong copyediting and proofreading abilities in Spanish.
- Proficient translation skills between English and Spanish.
- Enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
- Fluency in English; native Spanish speaker preferred.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor's degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Three to five years of experience in professional translation and editing.
- Familiarity with translation memory software is advantageous.
- Understanding of A.A. service structure is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Availability to work in person at least three days per week.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends during peak periods.
- Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods, utilizing a computer for various tasks.
- Comfortable working in a standard office environment.
