JOB DESCRIPTION:

Fosters a classroom atmosphere conducive to the learning and personal development of students in a specialized educational environment. Establishes strong connections with students. Inspires students to cultivate the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for becoming responsible citizens in alignment with their individual capabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborates with educators, administrators, guardians, school counselors, and service providers to create a comprehensive educational plan for students in specialized settings.
  • Assists in formulating and executing individualized education and transition plans for students.
  • Teaches students in a curriculum that meets defined objectives and prepares them to achieve grade-level benchmarks.
  • Instructs students in civic responsibility and fundamental subjects as mandated by educational laws and policies.
  • Works alongside the primary instructor to design lesson plans and supplementary materials that align with curriculum standards; provides tailored instruction in both individual and small group settings to meet diverse student needs.
  • Transforms lesson plans into engaging learning experiences that maximize instructional time and actively involve students.
  • Establishes and upholds standards of student conduct necessary for a productive learning environment by reinforcing positive behaviors and addressing negative ones.
  • Assesses students' academic and social progress, prepares report cards, and maintains accurate records, including attendance and other essential documentation.
  • Maintains regular communication with parents or guardians through meetings and other channels to discuss student progress.
  • Supervises student movement and assists in guiding students to various resources and activities within the school.
  • Administers standardized assessments.
  • Models inclusive practices in all interactions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution; a valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate; must comply with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or demonstrate a willingness to meet these standards within the specified timeframe; other qualifications as determined by the Board.
