Histotechnician - Iowa Float Position

We are seeking a skilled Histotechnician to join our team at Epiphany Dermatology. As a Histotechnician, you will play a vital role in providing laboratory support for our dermatology practice, ensuring the accuracy and safety of lab services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver safe and accurate lab services under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Complete comprehensive laboratory technician training and orientation on Epiphany laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Prepare, process, and send out specimens and forms according to OSHA safety labeling and handling protocols.
- Perform administrative lab duties within the scope of practice, including follow-up on necessary results and limited billing-specific duties.
- Provide feedback on status and reports to providers as necessary.
- Assist with Mohs surgery by sectioning and staining slides for the dermatologist during surgery.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of requisitions for all specimens prior to collection.
- Assist with laboratory tasks related to receiving, organizing, and preparing patient tissue samples for macroscopic evaluation by the Grossing Technician.
- Enter information provided by the Grossing Technician into the patient's electronic medical record.
- Assist with laboratory tasks related to receiving, organizing, and preparing patient tissue samples for microscopic evaluation by the Dermatopathologist.
- Assist with laboratory send-outs, including slide and block requests.
- Perform general lab maintenance, such as slide and block organization and storage, and maintain CLIA required records and documentation.
- Assist with completing and maintaining all compliance-related paperwork, including temperature and humidity information, chemical reagent log sheets, patient information logs, and quality assurance forms.
- Provide excellent customer service to contacts in a competent and courteous manner, both in person and on the telephone, and answer or refer inquiries.
- Accurately and timely complete documentation using both the Electronic Medical Record and any required paper documentation, while ensuring patient confidentiality.
- Ensure that blood/body fluids, biohazard materials, needle containers, and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed of according to infection control guidelines.
- Monitor expiration dates and take action accordingly. Recognize usage trends affecting unit supplies and make recommendations for adjustments.
- Participate in staff meetings and workgroups by providing constructive input for practice improvements and solutions.
Requirements:
- Minimum of two years of related laboratory experience as a technician, preferably in a physician practice or ambulatory environment.
- Associate's degree and successful completion of a certified program for laboratory technicians.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree and certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Must be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The medical office, procedure/exam room, and laboratory environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, biohazards, or toxic substances. Daily activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting items up to 30 lbs.
