Position Overview
This role requires IV certification and involves working hours from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM and 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with a commitment to every other weekend and rotating holidays.
The position entails supporting the Pharmacist in delivering pharmaceutical care by executing technical and administrative tasks associated with the Pharmacy's operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current Pharmacy Technician registration or Pharmacist intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy is mandatory. ACPE I.V Certification with completion of a 40-hour course in I.V. admixture is preferred. Sterile Products Certification through an accredited program is required if the incumbent compounds sterile products.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
1-2 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred. A solid understanding of medical terminology is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Select prescribed medications based on dosage and strength as indicated on patient medication files or cart-fill lists.
- Receive merchandise and manage inventory.
- Monitor assigned areas for stock levels and expiration dates.
- Deliver medications to patient care areas.
- Inspect and maintain emergency medication trays.
- Package and label unit dose oral liquids/tablets, maintaining pre-pack records.
- Collect and load drugs into an automated drug dispensing system (PYXIS) and maintain inventory for non-automated patient care areas.
- Respond to medication requests from nursing staff and other departments.
- Ensure compliance with medication safety checks.
- Prepare sterile products accurately and aseptically when necessary.
- Engage with customers as a liaison and gather medication histories as applicable.
- Manage pharmaceutical waste responsibly.
- Process credits for returned medications using the computer system and return medications to inventory.
If Registered Intern:
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, communicate with physicians regarding appropriate medications, dosages, dosing intervals, drug allergies, and potential drug interactions.
Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards while managing budgetary constraints, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
Promote individual professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory and continuing education, demonstrating skills competency, and supporting department-based goals that contribute to the organization's success. Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource for less experienced staff.
