Aquatic Programs Specialist Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aquatic Programs Specialist to join our team at the City of Hopewell, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of pool patrons, maintaining the pool and equipment, and providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor pool patrons to ensure safety and enforce pool rules and regulations.
  • Plan and facilitate exercise classes, water safety classes, and Lifeguard certification classes.
  • Assist with scheduling of the aquatic facility and work with outside organizations for group reservations and programming.
  • Assume the duties of the Aquatic Programs Supervisor in their absence.
  • Assist with training aquatics staff on safety protocols, maintenance, and other aquatic division duties.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the pool deck, surrounding areas, pool equipment, and shower areas.
  • Monitor pool chemical levels and perform routine maintenance on pool equipment and machinery.
  • Participate in programs for continuing education and to maintain certifications.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Aqua Fitness Instructor Certification preferred or within six months of hire.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred or within a year of hire.
  • Aquatic Facility Operator preferred or within 18 months of hire.

Work Environment: The work environment is primarily indoors, but may be exposed to temperature changes and/or extreme noise, odors, heights, depths, and/or dust.

Essential Physical Activities: The job requires stooping, crouching, sitting, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, and depth perception.
