Job Description and Duties

This position is eligible for remote-centered hybrid telework up to three days per week; the other two days per week are in the office for hands-on training and team meetings.

The Department of Industrial Relations is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Officer to join our team. As an Accounting Officer, you will be responsible for performing professional accounting functions within the General Ledger Unit.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor), you will be responsible for:

  • Performing accounting tasks in accordance with Office of Fiscal Services (OFS) guidelines, Governor's Budget, Department of Finance (DOF) rules and regulations, State Controller's Office (SCO) policies, State Administrative Manual (SAM), and government codes utilizing the Financial Information System of California (FI$Cal) PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office.
  • Providing financial analysis and support to the department's management team.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting. Air-conditioned building with elevator access, cubicle with natural and artificial lighting. Telework typical work requires prolonged use of a computer, calculator, telephone, and interaction with co-workers.

Special Requirements:

A STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS (SOQ) IS REQUIRED. The SOQ must be in 11 pt. Arial font; have 1" margins; be limited to no more than two (2) single-sided pages and be in narrative form (no bullet points).
