Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at SGS. As a key member of our laboratory operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of our laboratory technicians, ensuring that all samples are properly received, identified, prepared, and analyzed in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of laboratory technicians to ensure that all tests are performed according to test plans and safety procedures.
  • Lead the team in ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, internal standards, and protocols.
  • Perform Senior Laboratory Technician duties, including conducting laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance schedules for all equipment located in the laboratory.
  • Responsible for purchasing all laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Perform annual performance evaluations on all laboratory technicians.
  • Review data as it applies to operations and quality control daily and update all quality control logs and charts as required.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years working in Industrial or Laboratory or Field settings.
  • ~Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or Related field Preferred.
  • ~5+ years working in industrial or Laboratory or Field setting with experience following strict safety standards, including 1+ years of supervisory experience Preferred.
  • May be required to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) Required.
  • May be required to obtain a 24-hour surface Miner MSHA certificate, training is available Required.
  • Proficiency in common lab techniques such as dilutions, reagent preparation, data interpretation, and other related lab procedures Required.

Language Skills:

  • English - Advanced level of proficiency Preferred.
  • Awareness of financial indicators, ability to read PNL Required.
  • Ability to set daily goals and track performance Required.
  • Ability to perform duties, following detailed instruction (sample testing) Required.

Computer Skills:

  • ~ MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Intermediate level user proficiency Required.

Travel:

  • ~ Travels up to 5% of the time. Local day travel may be required; may be required to travel overnight occasionally.

Equipment:

  • Familiarity with equipment used by front-line employees; routinely uses sample prep equipment including Jaw Crusher, Bowl & Disc Pulverizing Mills, Pressure Filters, Riffle Splitters, Compressed Air.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment/instruments including Bottle-top Dispensers, Eppendorf Pipettes, Balances, Muffle Furnace, Sulfur Analyzer, Compressed gases, ICP-OES, and Flame AA.

Work Environment:

  • Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, however some locations have 24/7 operations and require a willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Longer hours, evenings, and/or weekend work will be necessary occasionally/frequently as job duties demand.
  • Position requires occasional overtime.
  • You may be expected to report anytime day or night should the job require.
