Department of Physics and Astronomy

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor in Experimental Quantum Physics. This appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level and will begin with the Fall Term of 2025 or thereafter.

The successful candidate will enhance or strategically complement ongoing efforts within the Department of Physics and Astronomy, as well as within the Pittsburgh Quantum Institute and Petersen Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering. We are particularly interested in applications focusing on work in the following areas:

  • Quantum sensing
  • Quantum control in novel physical systems
  • Quantum communication
  • Quantum simulators and emulators
  • Materials for quantum information processing
  • Atomic and molecular quantum systems
  • Quantum nano- and optomechanics
  • Quantum electronic devices and systems

The position requires a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related area. All candidates should have the potential to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and to attract external funding for a creative, independent, and broad-based research program.
