About the Role

Rapid Micro Biosystems is seeking a talented Development Engineer to join our team of engineers and scientists. As a Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and testing microbial devices from concept to commercialization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop automated microbial devices and consumables
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed design drawings, 3D models, and prototypes
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and design verification and validation activities to ensure that product designs meet performance and safety requirements
  • Perform engineering analysis, simulations, and testing to evaluate the mechanical, electrical, and software aspects of devices
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical expertise and recommendations to improve product designs and processes
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to transfer designs to production and support process validation activities
  • Follows Quality Management Systems and assists with the creation of records
  • Develops project documentation, including reports, minutes, and presentations
  • Use of hand tools and 3D printers to build prototypes
  • Participates in project research and brainstorming teams
  • Performs experiments and testing supporting product development
  • Helps maintain the laboratory and other facilities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 0 to 1 years experience in the design and development of devices preferred (co-op or internship) but not mandatory
  • Proficiency in CAD software, SolidWorks preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely
  • Experience with design controls, risk management, and quality management systems is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Proficient in documentation, dimensioning, and specification writing
  • Basic knowledge of rapid prototyping methods
  • Model shop experience preferred but not required
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Writes and prepares documents in a concise, logical, grammatically appropriate, and detailed format
  • Willingness to take direction from others and to accept constructive feedback
  • Excellent oral communication skills
