Shelter Support Staff

As a Shelter Support Staff, you will play a vital role in developing the therapeutic program and treatment plan by creating a safe and supportive environment for our clients.
You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve the goals of the residential program and provide direct service to our clients.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating screenings and intakes for those seeking shelter
- Assessing safety needs and working with the Shelter Manager and Assistant Shelter Manager to obtain donations for meals, clothing, and basic necessities
- Assisting with regular statistical and programmatic reporting requirements
- Ensuring site-upkeep and daily cleaning is carried out, including common spaces, hallways, entryways, bathrooms, kitchen, etc.
- Ensuring sanitary conditions for sleeping accommodations related to cots, bedding/linens, etc.
- Directing shelter guests to warming centers and meal distribution during daytime hours
- Engaging in recommended professional development opportunities as offered
- Participating in routine staff meetings, regular supervision, and programmatic meetings
- Representing The City in a professional manner in accordance with our mission, beliefs, and values
Requirements include:
- High School Degree or GED at Minimum
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
- Ability to hold empathy and tolerance for people experiencing a wide range of behavioral challenges
- Willingness to provide appropriate intervention during medical and substance use emergencies
- Effective verbal and written communication skills required; bilingual abilities are a plus
- Awareness of the causes and effects of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty, economic justice, and multiple oppressions affecting economically vulnerable groups
- Knowledge of community resources
- Must be well organized, detailed, proficient at prioritizing; proficiency in Microsoft Office, computer, and data entry skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external partners
- Possess strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills and hold a comfort-level with stressful situations
