Your primary responsibilities as an Investment Strategy Specialist at BHP Ventures will encompass:

  • Gaining proficiency in key mining industry concepts and innovative technologies relevant to BHP, while building relationships within the investment ecosystem to identify and evaluate promising investment opportunities.
  • Conducting independent market analysis to formulate new and existing investment theses, pinpointing market trends and specific opportunities across various sectors to guide our investment strategy for optimal financial and strategic returns.
  • Supporting the qualification, screening, prioritization, and tracking of a high volume of potential investments to cultivate our pipeline of new opportunities.
  • Assisting with comprehensive due diligence processes, including market and competitive research, financial analysis and modeling, commercial assessments, and authoring investment memoranda to present recommendations to our Executive Leadership Committee.
  • Collaborating with investment team leaders to manage the investment process from inception to completion, coordinating with management teams of prospective investments, internal BHP units, legal and finance teams, and ensuring adherence to transaction timelines.
  • Engaging with our portfolio companies and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders to activate strategic collaborations with BHP.
  • Integrating insights from market engagement and investment activities to drive additional revenue and efficiencies across BHP.

About the Role

We are looking for an Investment Strategy Specialist to join our investment team within BHP Ventures.


As a Specialist, you will play a vital role in our global team, facilitating deal flow and portfolio management to generate strategic, financial, and insightful returns for the organization.

In addition to assisting with sourcing and evaluating minority investments, you will help manage these relationships to achieve strategic outcomes for BHP, informing business unit strategies and delivering on specific opportunities through partnerships and investments.

Your responsibilities will include supporting the execution of our Ventures program through tasks such as deal sourcing, due diligence, post-execution management, and identifying ways to enhance portfolio company value.

This role requires articulating enterprise capability needs in close collaboration with key internal stakeholders and external partners.


About You


You will have successfully completed a relevant undergraduate degree, and a postgraduate MBA (or equivalent) will be considered advantageous.

Candidates should possess an understanding of risk assessment and pricing, as well as familiarity with investment processes and key investment terminology.

Experience in the resources sector is beneficial but not mandatory.

You must be a quick learner, an attentive listener, and curious about various technologies.

Managing multiple investment processes and internal projects simultaneously will be essential, requiring strong prioritization skills.

Can you swiftly navigate topics from green steel to copper leaching to carbon capture, discerning what is viable versus what may be mere hype?

You should thrive in a dynamic and unstructured work environment, demonstrating a proactive approach and meticulous attention to detail.

Initiative and resourcefulness are key attributes for success in this role.
