Job Overview:
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission seeks a dedicated, collaborative, and detail-oriented professional to enhance the Engineering team, focusing on various levels of engineering design. This permanent full-time supervisory role involves the design, planning, direction, and coordination of construction initiatives alongside the engineering team, ensuring adherence to contracts and approved specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Formulates and assesses intricate plans and specifications for construction and agency operations, including water supply systems, swimming facilities, sewage treatment systems, and other essential infrastructure to verify compliance with state and federal regulations.

• Organizes and oversees the operations and schedules of assigned engineering and maintenance tasks, ensuring that project development and construction align with legal standards and agency policies; collaborates with various divisions, federal or state agencies, local governments, and other stakeholders.

• Supervises specialized feasibility studies or professional engineering evaluations conducted internally and reviews studies from consulting firms or public agencies; prepares and assesses documents, reports, and agreements related to these evaluations.

• Acts as a subject matter expert, providing professional engineering guidance on complex technical matters, and presents technical information, program plans, and proposals to upper management. Monitors and recommends changes to project orders as necessary.

• Conducts construction oversight, performs site inspections, executes testing during construction, and resolves technical challenges. Prepares daily project documentation and gathers as-built data.

• Reviews and authorizes invoices/recommendations for payment, ensuring that work completed aligns with the fees claimed.

• Approves final project completion and punch lists for construction or capital improvement initiatives.

• Maintains comprehensive records to adequately document the work performed and disseminates relevant documentation as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and a minimum of one year of experience in professional engineering roles. A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required at the time of application, and candidates must be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects upon employment or be able to obtain such licensure within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Familiarity with civil engineering principles, practices, and design methodologies; modern construction techniques; legal responsibilities associated with engineering work; federal and agency design standards; applicable laws and regulations; computer operation and AutoCAD; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); mathematics, surveying, and material testing; practical engineering concepts.
  • Ability to interpret and implement state and federal laws and regulations; design and evaluate engineering plans and specifications; oversee and approve engineering documentation; organize and analyze information effectively; manage and direct staff work; communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders; and prepare and explain civil engineering plans and reports.
