Job Title: Early Literacy Tutor

Join the Oakland Unified School District as an Early Literacy Tutor and play a vital role in supporting the academic success of our students.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Early Literacy Tutor. As an Early Literacy Tutor, you will work closely with students in grades TK-2 to provide targeted literacy support and instruction. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver high-quality literacy instruction and interventions to help students develop essential reading skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver literacy instruction and interventions to students in grades TK-2, focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and other essential reading skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and coaches to develop and implement literacy plans that meet the needs of individual students.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction to ensure students are meeting their literacy goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in literacy instruction.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, coaches, and parents to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong interest in education and literacy development.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations and adapt instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • College coursework or degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience working with young children, preferably in an early childhood setting.
  • Knowledge of research-based literacy instruction and interventions.
