Salary

The estimated salary for this role is between $146,644.50 and $205,302.30, depending on the location. This compensation range reflects the expected salary for the position based on industry standards and market conditions.

Job Description

This role is part of Blue Origin's Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops the Blue Moon lander product lines. As a Design Engineer - Space Infrastructure, you will be responsible for designing, building, testing, and flying Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) flight hardware. The ECLS System comprises the essential hardware for humans to inhabit space safely.

You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of designing, building, testing, and flying ECLS flight hardware. This includes working with designers, analysts, and engineers across ECLS to ensure that all hardware meets Flammability, Toxicity, and Thermal Vacuum stability requirements.

You will also be responsible for ECLS contributions to material usage agreements and oxygen compatibility assessments. Additionally, you will write ECLS contributions to verification statements and represent Blue Origin technical solutions to NASA subject matter experts to get buy-in for the technical design.

Educating your peers about satisfying NASA material requirements and working trade studies to balance mass, schedule, customer satisfaction, and cost are also key responsibilities of this role.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or environmental engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundamental mechanical chemistry, flammability, and toxicity.
  • Organizational skills to manage a large number of verifications and reports for ~20 sub-assemblies.
  • Familiarity and experience with hands-on prototyping and design, experiment design, test methods, and general laboratory skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
