Position Overview
Become a vital member of our finance team at UCSF, where your analytical skills will contribute to the success of our Housing program, essential for supporting the UCSF community. We are in search of a proficient Senior Financial Analyst who can navigate financial complexities and influence strategic decisions. Housing Services is a rapidly expanding auxiliary unit, facing unique challenges in managing operational costs, including debt obligations and capital investments in the competitive San Francisco market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budget Development and Oversight: Collaborate with managers and directors to coordinate the annual budget process for various business lines.
- Ensure alignment of Housing's financial activities with the approved budget and departmental accounts.
- Conduct regular meetings with Housing sub-units to review and analyze financial performance.
Accounting and Financial Operations:
- Oversee all financial transactions and accounting operations within Housing, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and ledger management.
Financial Analysis and Strategic Problem-Solving:
- Investigate and elucidate the underlying causes of financial discrepancies, including overages and shortages.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to analyze data from various sources, employing advanced analytical techniques to produce clear, concise reports for diverse audiences.
- Utilize various methods to address moderate to complex financial challenges within Housing.
- Generate comprehensive financial reports and executive summaries as required by leadership.
- Act as a liaison with various teams, including IT, Finance Service Center, and external vendors.
Project Management and Additional Duties: The Senior Financial Analyst will lead projects and take on other responsibilities as assigned, serving as a key collaborator within the Housing Systems & Finance team. This role will also provide backup support to the Associate Director of Systems and Finance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in financial analysis.
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial policies and practices.
- Ability to independently gather and analyze financial data.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of internal control practices and general accounting principles.
- Advanced skills in creating custom reports and utilizing Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with UCSF's financial policies and procedures.
- Experience in providing guidance to staff.
