Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a skilled Sonographer PRN to join our team. As a Sonographer PRN, you will perform imaging procedures at a technical level, requiring independent judgment and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with invasive procedures, adhering to universal protocol standards.
  • Ensure all exams are properly coded, tracked, and charged through the RIS system and ISITE for archiving and interpretation.
  • May be responsible for High Level Disinfection of devices, supplies, and equipment.
  • Communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner, explaining procedures to alleviate fears and solicit cooperation.
  • Identify patients properly using two identifiers and utilize universal protocol when performing procedures.
  • Review patient history and assess physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results.
  • Perform a variety of technical ultrasound procedures, correlating patient history, laboratory data, and physical findings for medical diagnosis under physician supervision.
  • Interact with patients and co-workers, displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity, and respect.
  • Utilize ultrasound instrumentation for procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment operations, applications, and scanning techniques.
  • Obtain image documentation of cross-sectional anatomy, demonstrating anatomy, anatomical relationships, and ultrasonic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues.
  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required. RDMS registration or eligibility is preferred.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
