About the Role:
The Naval Aviation Systems Department's mission is to enhance Naval Aviation solutions with urgency, ensuring warfighter superiority against current and future threats in defense of our nation.

This is achieved by delivering timely, effective, and sustainable capabilities to ensure mission success and the safe return of our warfighters.


Key Responsibilities:
The Naval Aviation department is in search of a Communications Systems Engineer. The selected candidate will engage in the research, development, and integration of communication systems for Naval aircraft.

The ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of communication system design and be adept at applying this knowledge to conduct analyses and resolve challenges.

The responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to assess operational needs, tackle communication network challenges, implement effective technology solutions, and enhance communication and networking capabilities to support the sponsor's mission.
  • Conducting independent evaluations of communication system designs and their integration into naval aircraft, including alternatives analysis, design assessments, and performance estimations.
  • Assessing and optimizing the link performance of satellite communication systems and tactical data links integrated on Naval aircraft.
  • Modeling and analyzing communication system performance in contested environments and relevant operational scenarios.
  • Engaging in systems engineering and testing, including requirements development, analysis, traceability, and management.
  • Preparing technical reports and delivering presentations on analyses, findings, and recommendations to government sponsors.
  • Collaborating with fellow engineers in a team setting to support the development, analysis, and testing of communication systems.

Basic Qualifications:
Typically, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field with 8 years of relevant experience; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of applicable experience who can contribute immediately at this level.

Active Secret clearance with the capability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/SCI clearance.

Proficiency in communications theory, link budgets, and communication/networking protocols.

Experience with programming languages such as C++, Python, MATLAB, or other modeling and analysis tools.

A passion for solving complex problems across various engineering disciplines.

A flexible systems thinker with the ability to deliver results swiftly and achieve significant outcomes.

Strong communication, collaboration, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.

Experience working effectively in a team environment.

Ability to present highly technical information to diverse audiences.

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline with 6 years of experience.

Strong systems engineering skills and familiarity with independent Verification & Validation (V&V) testing.

Knowledge in RF communications theory, including:
  • Modulation types
  • Error correction coding
  • Channel effects
  • Communications protocols
  • Antenna performance modeling
  • Digital Signal Processing
  • Software Defined Radios
  • Military & Commercial Satellite Systems
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) experience
