Position Overview
  • As an Intellectual Property Paralegal within Schneider Electric's Legal Intellectual Property Team, you will collaborate with a skilled and cooperative group of in-house attorneys and legal experts to assist in managing global patent portfolio operations.
  • This position will support the US Patent Team, either remotely or locally, focusing on IP legal operations, patent portfolio enhancement, oversight of docketing, and management of external counsel.
Key Responsibilities
  • Data Management & Docketing
    • Administer the Intellectual Property Management system for global patent and design management.
    • Oversee the in-house patent and design docket, including setting up new matters, docketing correspondence, uploading documents, verifying deadlines, closing matters, and preparing patent applications and grant reports.
    • Coordinate international filings with external counsel and foreign law offices.
    • Review incoming correspondence from relevant patent offices regarding the status of international and PCT applications.
    • Manage patent-related deadlines, ensuring timely compliance by the in-house team, inventors, and external counsel.
    • Support data integrity and quality assurance within the IP Management system to resolve errors and maintain accurate records.
    • Assist in preparing and recording formal documents, including Declarations, Powers of Attorney, Assignments, and changes in inventor names.
    • Manage the USPTO Deposit Account.
    • Conduct global annuity portfolio management.
  • Outside Counsel Management
    • Review monthly reports to identify matters requiring attention.
    • Collaborate with outside counsel, internal counsel, and inventors to resolve issues.
    • Support vendor invoice submission processes.
  • Communication
    • Engage with inventors to gather information related to patent transmittals and filings.
  • Facilitate the onboarding of new law firms by providing necessary guidelines and documents for signature and vendor creation in the invoice processing system.
  • Assist with patent budget data analysis.
  • Provide IP support for various projects as needed.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions and corporate transactions.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Patent Paralegal.
  • A Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certification.
  • Experience in international intellectual property law, docketing, and filing and prosecution processes in the US and internationally.
  • Familiarity with patent portfolio management databases and data integrity resolution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Self-motivated, with the awareness to escalate issues when necessary.
Preferences
  • At least 2 years of in-house experience.
  • Expertise with Patent Center.
  • Familiarity with the patent lifecycle for US and PCT applications.
  • Strong technical knowledge.
  • Proficiency with IP analytics and management systems.
  • Experience in onboarding IP portfolio asset transfers.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Tableau, Questel Orbit, and Legal Tracker.
