Key Responsibilities:
- Assist educators in implementing instructional strategies and lessons.
- Provide individualized or small group assistance to students with special needs or learning challenges.
- Supervise and support students across various school environments, including classrooms, recreational areas, and dining facilities.
- Contribute to classroom management and organization.
- Help prepare educational materials and resources.
- Encourage students in developing social skills and positive behaviors.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all learners.
- Engage in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervising educator or school administration.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate's degree or higher in education or a related discipline is preferred.
- Experience in an educational setting with children is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Capability to work effectively within a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a sincere passion for working with children.
Required Certifications:
- Virginia Paraprofessional Certification: Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Possess an associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Complete a minimum of 60 college semester credits.
- Pass the Virginia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (VACE) or an equivalent approved assessment.
- CPR and First Aid Certification: Preferred but can be obtained post-hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended durations.
- Ability to kneel, bend, and reach as necessary to assist students.
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time role during the academic year.
- Work hours may vary based on school schedules and requirements.
- Primary work will occur in a school environment, with occasional outdoor supervision.
