AM Ortega, a reputable construction firm operating across Southern California, is in search of a dedicated and experienced CIVIL ESTIMATOR WITH A FOCUS ON GRADING to enhance our operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Developing comprehensive cost estimates for projects within their designated categories.
- Assessing labor and equipment expenses.
- Generating precise quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
- Requesting quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
- Analyzing bid documents and evaluating project risks.
- Understanding project logistics and timelines.
- Comparing and assessing competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Collaborating with the estimating and project management teams to review quotes and estimates.
- Preparing estimates at various stages of project completion.
- Conducting pre-construction meetings with clients, owners, subcontractors, and engineers as necessary.
- Managing ongoing projects awarded based on prepared estimates.
- Overseeing project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, and official client communications.
- Performing additional related duties as assigned.
- This role is positioned within the Estimating department, with opportunities for career advancement for motivated individuals.
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Proven experience in technical methodologies for preparing construction cost estimates.
- Expertise in Heavy Civil and Site Development, Grading, Paving, and Concrete work.
- Familiarity with Storm Drain and Drainage systems.
- Knowledge of Fencing and Masonry.
- Experience with Agtek Earthworks 4D software.
- Proficiency in on-screen take-off software such as Blue Beam or Plan Swift.
- Experience with HeavyBid is advantageous.
- Proficient in Primavera P-6 Scheduling.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Standard English.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills that foster a positive work environment.
- A 4-year degree from an accredited institution and 4 years of relevant work experience, or 8 years of work experience in a similar role is required.
- Preferred degrees include Business Management, Project Management, Communications, Construction Engineering, or related fields.
- Experience with public utilities in Southern California is preferred.
- Familiarity with Heavy Construction Software Suite, including HeavyBid, HeavyJob, and Safety, is a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 is desirable.
- Knowledge of Sage 300/Timberline and/or Sage Paperless is preferred.
- Experience with Agtek or Autodesk software is a plus.
