Job Summary

West Philadelphia Achievement Charter Elementary School is seeking a highly qualified Physical Education Teacher to join our professional community. This position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship between healthy body function and exercise, motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, discovers and develops the talent of students in physical achievement, and strengthens students' skills, agility, poise, and coordination as individuals and as a part of a team. The physical education teacher will oversee activities and sports in concert with other staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Teaching and Curriculum Development: Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual or team sports to students in a way that is engaging, interactive, and tailored to their needs.
  2. Collaboration and Teamwork: Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program that meets the needs of all students.
  3. Classroom Management: Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  4. Safety and Risk Management: Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  5. Evaluation and Assessment: Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports, and provides feedback to students and parents.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification: Valid PA Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience: 2+ years of teaching Physical Education.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 15 lbs, walk a standard flight of stairs, or stand or sit for up to 45 minutes.
