Job SummaryAs a key member of the University of Massachusetts dining team, the Head Dishroom Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and efficiency of our dishroom operations. This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the cleaning of tableware, utensils, and equipment, as well as training new employees and performing related tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and participate in the cleaning of tableware, utensils, and equipment, including maintenance of cleaning equipment.
- Ensure the removal of remnant food from dishes, pots, and utensils, and supervise and participate in their hand washing or placement on a conveyor or in a dishwasher.
- Supervise and participate in washing and scouring of pots, pans, and trays.
- Supervise and participate in the segregation and removal of trash and garbage, and ensure that garbage cans are hosed out and/or steam cleaned.
- Supervise and participate in the loading and unpacking of supplies and equipment, and ensure that adequate supplies of utensils and dinnerware are maintained at designated areas.
- Supervise and participate in the manual tasks involved in the cleaning of refuse storage and refrigeration areas.
- At least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in food service work in a hotel, restaurant, cafeteria, catering firm, government, or private institution.
- Certification as a food handler within six months of appointment start date through a recognized program approved by the University of Massachusetts.
- Knowledge of the methods followed in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of utensils, equipment, and food service areas.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions, stand for prolonged periods, lift and carry heavy objects, and give written and oral instructions in a precise and understandable manner.
This position is designated as essential personnel and requires the ability to balance, carry, push, pull, stand, bend, climb, reach, twist, lift, and perform repetitive movements. Rotating days off, including evening, weekends, and holidays, with a minimum of 35 weeks per year.
