This involves reviewing and refining a class syllabus to include instructor-specific contact information and course policies, ensuring that the syllabus meets department and college standards.
Adjunct instructors are also required to plan and create lectures, in-class discussions, and assignments, grade assigned papers, quizzes, and exams, and assess students' progress based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
They are responsible for reporting student learning outcomes, class reviews, and analyzing student data, collaborating with colleagues on the course curriculum, advising students on how to be successful in class, and staying updated on innovations and changes within their course field.
Additionally, adjunct instructors must record class attendance and submit it (if needed) to the program coordinator, meet assigned classes as scheduled and follow school policies on absences, and adhere to designated instructional time for all classes.
They are also expected to utilize assigned institutional email address and systems, where email is the OFFICIAL form of communication, meet established deadlines for submission of student grades in ROAR, and participate in the course evaluation process.
Other responsibilities include designating and availing themselves to at least one hour, either virtually or in-person, as an office hour, informing students on the syllabus where and when these will be held, and working with the program coordinator to submit the syllabus to the Office of the Dean, meet/follow course outcomes, use required course components, and provide assessment data.
Adjunct instructors are also expected to follow the Academic/Registrar Calendar and comply with the adjunct contract.
A master's degree in the desired discipline is preferred, and applicants with a master's degree in a different field may be considered if they have completed at least 18 graduate credits in the desired area.
