The Claims Apprentice Program at PMA Companies is a comprehensive training initiative for recent college graduates seeking a career as a Claims Adjuster in the Property & Casualty insurance industry.

As a Claims Apprentice, you will be immersed in a nine-month program that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in workers' compensation and/or property and liability claims.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Promptly investigating assigned claims to determine coverage, compensability, and potential for subrogation recovery.
  • Ensuring timely denial or payment of benefits in accordance with jurisdictional requirements.
  • Establishing and adjusting reserves to reflect changes in exposure.
  • Negotiating claims settlements within granted authority.
  • Developing and implementing action plans for case resolution, including medical and disability management, litigation management, negotiation, and disposition.
  • Collaborating with PMA nurse professionals to develop return-to-work strategies.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of jurisdictional requirements and applicable case law.
  • Communicating effectively with internal and external parties on a wide range of claims and account issues.
  • Authorizing treatment based on practiced protocols established by statute or the PMA Managed Care department.
  • Assisting clients by suggesting panel provider information in accordance with applicable state statutes.

A minimum of an Associate's Degree is required, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred. Relevant work and/or volunteer experience in a service-oriented setting, leadership ability, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, ability to work independently, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are also essential.
