Cardiac Monitor Technician

As a Cardiac Monitor Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care in our telemetry and critical care units. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or provider, you will be responsible for monitoring cardiac arrhythmias, observing data generated from central cardiac monitors, and reporting changes in patient status to healthcare providers or nurses.
Key Responsibilities- Record and mount rhythm strips of patients on cardiac arrhythmia monitors, measuring heart rate, PR interval, QRS complexes, and QT intervals as necessary.
- Observe central cardiac monitors constantly for arrhythmias and changes in blood pressure and/or respiration, reporting changes to healthcare providers or nurses.
- Assist staff in emergencies as directed, notifying appropriate personnel of emergency situations and following established emergency protocol.
- Observe the effects of various medications in relation to arrhythmia, reporting effects to healthcare providers or nurses.
- Update telemetry unit patient census boards on patient admissions and discharges, labeling and distributing trend reports on each patient for the past eight hours as required.
- Apply safety principles and standards as defined by the hospital, practicing within nursing department and unit-specific standards, policies, procedures, protocol, and guidelines.
- Minimum six (6) months of cardiac monitor technician experience or successful completion of a training program required upon hire.
- High school diploma or GED, with post-high school coursework in electrocardiogram (EKG) required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support required at hire.
- Minimum one (1) year of EKG monitor reading experience in an acute care setting.
