Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. As a Nurse Specialist, you will provide high-quality patient care and coordinate with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide competent, evidence-based specialty care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the clinic setting.
  • Coordinate patient care, health promotion, health education, and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.
  • Manage secure messaging to facilitate care coordination.
  • Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Integrate specialty care knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment to manage complex outpatient situations.
  • Validate understanding of the rationale for specialty care processes and decisions.
  • Question clinical practices to provide evidence-based care.
  • Demonstrate the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate competence in specialty care practices and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills.
Requirements
  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 2-3 years of Med-Surg, Clinic, or Surgical Specialty experience.
  • Able to perform basic Urological or GYN office-based procedures.
  • Podiatry Basic Foot Care experience a plus.
Working Conditions
  • Must pass a RN physical.
  • Standing, lifting, sitting, walking for up to 12 hours.
