EMT - Float Pool - PRN

A unit-based Technician will provide direct assistance in patient care of diverse ED patient populations. This position will also be directly responsible for performing duties such as Point of Care Testing, General Phlebotomy, and Sample Collection. Within the scope of practice of the EMT Intermediate/Advanced, the Technician will promote and establish criteria for the delivery of quality care. Under the direction of Licensed Nursing Staff, the Technician will provide assistance and perform care within the scope of practice. This position will care for patients in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
Key Responsibilities:- Abide by patient safety standard guidelines to ensure the safety of patients and self.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, clean, and therapeutic environment.
- Prioritize workload appropriately, evidenced by immediate attention to those with actual or potential urgency.
- Report vital signs/patient updates documentation as appropriate on all assigned patients.
- Promptly identify and report physical and mental status changes to licensed staff.
- Recognize and report conditions that affect or compromise technical aspects of the test/procedure.
- Participate in the assessment of patient's physical and emotional needs and communicate findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
- Demonstrate competency and proficiency in preparing, assisting, and discharging patients.
- Report vital signs/patient updates documentation as appropriate on all assigned patients.
- Maintain a positive public relations image as a caring, courteous, attentive, and efficient employee.
- Stay informed of shift activities and attend staff meetings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of dysrhythmias and conduction abnormalities with recognition of potential risks.
- In support of ED clinicians, demonstrate understanding of the protocol for managing, promoting, and obtaining an interpretation of STEMI EKGs.
- Perform satisfactorily in mock codes and other emergency drills or events.
- Correctly perform routine venipuncture and peripheral IV access within the scope of practice.
- Correctly perform micro-collection and other special collection techniques.
- Ensure the integrity of submitted clinical specimens.
- Utilize proper body mechanics, provide for positioning, mobility, hygiene, ADL, and comfort needs.
- Attain proficiency with all required IT systems to support clinical staff.
- Maintain licensure as EMT Intermediate or Advanced in accordance with Georgia Office of EMS requirements.
- Use performance measures to assess and improve the delivery of research-based practices.
- Promote outcomes that demonstrate delivery of high-quality and safe care.
- Perform assessments of the unit to provide context for problem identification and action.
- Implement quality/safety strategies based on current data, analysis, and risk anticipation.
- Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement within the unit.
- Evaluate patient handoffs and transitions of care to improve outcomes.
- Use a variety of datasets appropriate for the patient population, setting, and organization to assess individual and unit outcomes of care.
- Facilitate modification of nursing interventions based on risk anticipation and other evidence to improve outcomes.
- Facilitate the use of daily management systems to measure and respond to variances in quality and safety processes.
- Weight Lifted: Up to 50 lbs, Occasionally 0-30% of time.
- Weight Carried: Up to 50 lbs, Frequently 31-65% of time.
- Vision: Moderate, Constantly 66-100% of time.
- Kneeling/Stooping/Bending: Frequently 31-65%.
- Standing/Walking: Frequently 31-65%.
- Pushing/Pulling: Frequently 31-65%.
- Intensity of Work: Frequently 31-65%.
- Job Requires: Reading, Writing, Reasoning, Talking, Keyboarding.
