The Occupational Therapist is responsible for adhering to departmental protocols regarding documentation, evaluations, and patient care. This role requires effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals while managing administrative duties and supporting the operational unit. The therapist must demonstrate proficiency in utilizing various treatment techniques and equipment, conducting assessments, and modifying treatment plans as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately documents evaluation findings in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Maintains daily progress notes that reflect patient responses, performance, and assessments relevant to treatment goals.
  • Prepares discharge summaries that outline treatment progress, future needs, and educational recommendations for patients and families.
  • Engages in effective communication with all stakeholders, including patients, families, and medical staff.
  • Provides educational resources tailored to the patient’s comprehension and motivation levels.
  • Exhibits essential competencies in treatment modalities and equipment usage, performing re-evaluations and adjusting treatment plans as required.
  • Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of therapeutic techniques and assessment methods.
  • Takes full responsibility for the Occupational Therapy management process from initial contact through to discharge, ensuring functional progress and safety.
  • May undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Certification: Basic Life Support / Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Licensure: Occupational Therapist License in Virginia
  • Experience: Prior experience in Occupational Therapy preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
