Job Summary
The County Attorney will serve as in-house counsel to the County, providing legal services and risk management expertise. This role will oversee the legal department and risk management unit, directing and coordinating activities to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and representation to the County, including litigation and appellate experience.
- Coordinate legal and risk management strategy, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise and manage the daily administrative operations of the legal department and risk management unit.
- Represent the County in state and federal courts, as well as judicial and administrative bodies.
- Advise the County Manager and Commissioners on all County legal matters.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and a valid license to practice law in the State of New Mexico.
- Eight years of experience in the practice of law, including litigation, appellate experience, and coordination of multiple assignments.
- Five years of experience supervising others, with prior local government legal experience and knowledge of law and concepts relevant to County government preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of state and federal law, particularly administrative and regulatory functions.
- Skills in representing the County in various proceedings, using independent judgment, researching, analyzing, and applying law.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
Compensation Range
$140,000 - $149,276.00
