Position Overview
Reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Ministry and collaborating closely with the Campus Minister for Liturgy, this part-time role is essential for maintaining the organization, cleanliness, and distribution of liturgical resources for Campus Ministry's worship programming. This position plays a key role in sustaining the liturgical atmosphere and ensuring that all necessary items are adequately stocked in the university's chapels.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of all university liturgies in partnership with the liturgy team and Campus Minister for Liturgy.
- Care for liturgical garments, altar linens, and banners through washing, steaming, and repairs.
- Regularly purify, wash, and iron altar linens for daily and Sunday services.
- Conduct routine checks to replenish chapels with fresh hosts, wine, clean linens, and other essential items.
- Ensure that holy water fonts are maintained and sanctuary candles are consistently lit.
- Prepare and deliver liturgical kits for Mass and Baptism as needed.
- Manage the upkeep of plants and flowers within the chapels.
- Design and maintain the liturgical environment, including seasonal decorations and banners.
- Create promotional materials using design software for various liturgical events.
- Develop and manage a mailing list to disseminate information about liturgies and prayer services.
- Keep bulletin boards updated with relevant information in the chapels.
- Post schedules and signage in and around the chapels as required.
- Compile and organize liturgical binders containing scripts and readings for services.
- Recruit and schedule student sacristans for daily Masses, ensuring support during services.
- Be present at all university liturgies, guiding student ministers and engaging the congregation.
- Test and prepare audio equipment for each liturgical service.
- Mentor and train student liturgical ministers, particularly sacristans and acolytes.
- Welcome and assist visiting presiders during services.
- Participate in planning meetings for special liturgical events.
- Collaborate with campus partners to identify students for hospitality roles during Masses.
- Support the operational needs of the chapels.
- Staff liturgies and other events as scheduled.
- Report maintenance and custodial needs promptly.
- Maintain a tidy and organized workspace in the chapel facilities.
- Work alongside the Jesuit Community staff for daily Masses.
- Manage the procurement of practical supplies for chapel operations.
- Coordinate with the Campus Minister for Liturgy to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Attend team meetings and collaborate with other campus ministers as needed.
- Incorporate inclusive practices and programming that resonate with today’s college students.
- Utilize social media and technology to enhance student engagement and organizational efficiency.
- Provide pastoral support to students, fostering their spiritual growth and connection to the university's mission.
- Engage in various Campus Ministry initiatives and events.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Theology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred experience in a university setting with college students.
- Knowledge of Ignatian Spirituality and contemporary approaches to faith formation.
- Understanding of racial justice and commitment to the university's mission.
- Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Effective active listening and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in technology, social media, and Microsoft Office Suite.
