Job Summary

We are seeking an Electromagnetic Design Engineer to join our team at Insight Global. As an Electromagnetic Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of hybrid electric engines, supporting the modeling and measuring of electric motor issues. Your responsibilities will include designing and optimizing electric powertrains, developing test plans, and performing measurements in the lab.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and system optimization of electric motors
  • Perform characterization tests to evaluate the impact of new materials on motor/system performance and efficiency
  • Develop MATLAB functions to model motor performance and efficiency
  • Perform 2D/3D FEA simulations to derive the electromagnetic behavior of various electromechanical components
  • Develop analytical models to improve flux linkage and loss calculation for various types of motors
  • Optimize motor design to seamlessly mesh with the powertrain
  • Motor dyno loss characterization and fault characterization
  • Explore and design innovative motor topologies
  • Develop motor control simulation models and support motor control firmware
  • Create simulation models for thermal model development and system engineering

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electromagnetics
  • Strong fundamentals in electromagnetics and electrical machines, preferably permanent magnet
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink programming
  • Experience with ANSYS Maxwell 2D/Maxwell 3D
  • Ability to analyze using FEA
