Job Summary

As a City Delivery Driver with FedEx Freight, you will be responsible for transporting freight between Service Centers and customers, while also supporting the selling process. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples, to transport freight between Service Centers and customers.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer, and secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies.
  • Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  • Verify and complete required documentation and reports, and comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
  • Collect cash or checks for freight charges, as required, and maintain required documentation.
  • Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
  • Ask for additional business from customers, and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities.
Requirements
  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements.
  • Must possess one (1) year experience within the most recent three (3) years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
  • Must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
  • Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations.
Working Conditions

As a City Delivery Driver, you will be required to drive throughout your shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather. You will also be exposed to noise and vibration, dust and diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations.
