Athletic Academic Support Director

Job Summary:

The Director of Athletics Learning Support will provide academic learning support for student-athletes participating in the Charleston Southern University Intercollegiate Athletic Department. This position requires maintaining accurate records and reports related to each student-athlete's degree plan, progress toward degree, and athletic eligibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure student-athletes meet all applicable university standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Work with student-athletes on academic performance, goal setting, career planning, learning and study strategies, and other skills necessary for academic success.
  • Serve as the main contact for at-risk scholarshiped student-athletes.
  • Assist student-athletes in establishing and revising semester and annual goals and implementing an action plan to achieve their goals.
  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and prepare necessary reports for coaches and staff.
  • Serve as an athletic academic services liaison to the Buc Hub Learning Center.
  • Assist with recruiting activities as needed with coaches and academic staff.
  • Maintain accurate and current student files for assigned athletes.
  • Assist with gathering, maintaining, and reporting data related to academics for the NCAA and the Big South.
  • Provide consistent and frequent communication with the Associate Athletics Director for Academics and coaches about the progress of assigned students.
  • Track academic progress for at-risk student-athletes and work with individuals and groups to teach and develop successful academic skills.
  • Supervise and oversee study hall monitors and tutors, including training on CSU and NCAA academic integrity rules and policies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1-5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with industry standards.
  • Nights and weekend work required as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
